One of the biggest obstacles to us reaching out to someone who seems to be hurting is feeling like we are butting in.
Here is a simple way to check in without feeling like we’re intruding.
Three things to do:
- see if it’s good timing, and then
- gently ask, “Are you okay?”
This is a powerful question for three reasons:
- it lets them know that you noticed something is wrong
- it lets them know that you are care
- it gives them the space to choose how to respond
